Georgetown Chamber of Commerce

The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce is looking for a volunteer to write our newsletter each week.  We’d give the person the information to include and they would simply go in and edit the existing file.  They could do it at the Chamber or even from home as long as they have internet.  Time commitment:  ~4-5 hours per week.  We are also looking for a volunteer or two that would be interested in volunteering at the Chamber to help with miscellaneous clerical tasks.

Animal Shelter
The Volunteer Worker program greatly enhances the level of care given to the pets during their stay in the shelter, but more importantly, it affects the quality of life of the animals that found their way here. You will make a positive difference in the lives of some cats and dogs in your work here. Some people, even the fiercest animal lover, will hesitate to volunteer here, concerned that they will become attached to all the animals, but we have a variety of different jobs available, including some that don’t come into contact with the pets. The three major categories of volunteer work are: adoption outreach, one on one care of the animals, and fundraising. Fire DepartmentThe Georgetown Fire Department is an active division of people who do much more than just put out fires. We are active in outreach programs, education and participation in a number of events. We are currently seeking volunteers for Sept and Oct fire prevention week. Georgetown Public Library
Volunteering at the Georgetown Public Library is a job that will never get boring. The available jobs at the library range from filing books, teaching, working with children, helping those in need find the resources available to them, etc. Almost all opportunities come with the change to interact with a large range of people with varied interests and personalities. Main Street Georgetown
The Georgetown Main Street Program is always looking for more active volunteers. Some example activities are: serving on a main street advisory board or committee, helping with annual fundraisers, helping with special events downtown, and office and administrative assistance. Police Department
The Georgetown Police Services volunteer program is a vital part of the department. Volunteer groups that fall under PD include the Park Ranger Program, which is in place to help citizens enjoy our beautiful city parks. It also includes the Victim Services unit which is a group of trained individuals who help the survivors, witnesses and family members through a tragedy. Other volunteering opportunities include helping the Records Division with administrative functions. Visitors Center
Enhance the quality of the visitor’s stay in Georgetown by promoting our history, culture, and attractions to further strengthen our city’s image as a Texas destination. Enquire where visitor is going or what they would like to see or do. Volunteers are to be helpful by making suggestions, giving clear directions, and answering questions to the best of their ability. Partners In Education - GISD

We have hundreds of students who would love a Sun City mentor or tutor. Choose from 14 different schools - elementary, middle or high school - 30 minutes a week. The students of Georgetown would benefit greatly from your life experiences and wisdom. Village Elementary is in need of mentors as well; it is a school that is close and convenient for Sun City residents. Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Victim Assistance Unit is looking for volunteers

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Victim Assistance Unit is looking for volunteers. Volunteers will be trained to respond to emergency situations in Williamson County. After a traumatic event, people often feel helpless, confused and emotionally shocked. These volunteers will be trained to assist citizens of Williamson County in the immediate time of crises and support them through the first difficult hours.

Support duties of theses volunteers include: Homicides, Suicides/Attempted Suicides, Natural Death, Death Notifications, Fires, Child/Elder Abuse, Family Violence, Sexual Assaults, Traffic Accidents, General Welfare Concerns, Violent Crimes and Natural Disasters. Victim’s Assistance responds to calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Assistance League of Georgetown Area

We are the Assistance League - reaching out to the greater Georgetown area by putting caring and commitment into action. We invite you to join and volunteer in our philanthropic and fund-raising programs serving children and the elderly of our community. Our Thrift Shop at 603 W. Hope Alliance

Hope Alliance builds partnerships and provides services that renew hope, highlight possibilities, and change futures for those whose lives have been affected by domestic and sexual violence. We are asking for YOUR help to create hope and empower positive changes in the lives of survivors. TMFF (Texas Military Family Foundation)

Beginning back in August of ‘06, a group from Georgetown began weekly trips to Ft. Hood in support of the TMFF (Texas Military Family Foundation). The group is comprised of about 30 folks, mostly from Sun City, who carpool to deliver fresh baked goods (cookies and brownies) and fresh fruit (apples, bananas and oranges) to the troops. Most of the time, these items go to one of the SRP (soldier readiness processing) sites, where the soldiers process for pre- and post-deployment. It’s primarily administrative and medical with orientation briefi ngs included.

Over that period of time, we have been involved with departures, cookouts, welcome home, memorial services and visiting with soldiers at Darnell Hospital and Rough Rider Village (this is where soldiers are quartered after being released from Darnell) and the TMFF building.

We have been blessed to take a variety of wonderful baked goods (I’d estimate a few thousand dozen) and fruit from the good hearts who make and donate them. We have also delivered several hundred lullaby CDs (funded by the local Veterans organizations for the soldiers’ kids); about 4,000 pounds of hard back and paper back books from the Georgetown library and residents; hundreds of VCR and DVD tapes and portable players; hand made afghans; bicycles, and some items of clothing and a watch for one particular sol-dier who was burned out of his apartment.

The focus of TMFF is on soldiers who have been injured where our group can help out. The group going continues to grow, and the bakers, thankfully, also continue to grow. Our contribution is to show the soldiers that there are folks who appreciate their service and sacrifice, and we will continue our weekly trips until this war is over.

Habitat for Humanity

Since so many of our wonderful volunteers live in Sun City, I would like to reach out to others who might be interested in supporting Habitat in a non-construction area. We are in need of volunteers for our Family Selection Committee – this group is responsible for reviewing applications and recommending qualified applicants to the board of directors for selection in the Habitat program.

Williamson County Courthouse Academy

The Williamson Museum is seeking volunteers to give tours in the Museum as well as the newly restored 1910 Williamson County Courthouse. They also need volunteers for the "Up the Chisholm Trail" event to be held in September. Training sessions and materials are provided and training will be scheduled in July. Williamson County Children's Advocacy Center

Volunteers are needed at the Children’s Advocacy Center. Volunteers undergo a background check, personal interview, and training. They are asked to work 4 hour shifts (with whatever fl exibility is needed) and do the following: answer phones, help incoming clients with paperwork, play with the children, help with some general cleanup, and basically be a friendly face. American Red Cross of Central Texas opens office in Williamson County

The American Red Cross of Central Texas has opened an office in Georgetown to serve volunteers, customers and clients in Williamson County. Housed in the Georgetown Community Resource Center at 605 E. University Ave., the office will be staffed by volunteers and is poised to offer most, if not all, services provided in the Austin headquarters including volunteer orientation, disaster casework and safety training such as CPR and first aid.

Annunciation Maternity Home

Annunciation Maternity Home is a free, full-service home for young women (age 14 and up) who are in crisis pregnancies. We offer long-term care that begins when the resident arrives and ends only when she and her baby have a safe environment in which to return.

Thank you for your interest in volunteer ing with the Annunciation Maternity Home. There is always work to do, and we appreciate any help you can provide. We have various volunteer opportunities, such as: transporta tion, offi ce assistance, mentoring, babysit ting, life skills, maintenance, garage sales ,and daycare. We care about the safety of the young mothers we service; therefore, we ask all volunteers to allow us to run a background check. We truly appreciate your time. Faith in Action Caregivers

Georgetown needs volunteers to provide transportation for Seniors who are no longer able to drive to the doctor and other medical appointments, grocery store, or other personal errands. Lone Star Circle of Care Health Clinics

A number of volunteer opportunities in Round Rock and Georgetown are available at Lone Star Circle of Care, which operates health clinics for tens of thousands of our medically underserved neighbors. Opportunities range from acting as a patient advocate to assisting with administrative tasks and special events. MEDICO

MEDICO, an international humanitarian service organization based in Georgetown, provides outreaches of medical, optometric, and dental care professional teams to remote areas of Central America, where there is little or no access to health care. Volunteers are needed to prepare, condense, and pack medicines into containers which are flown in with the medical teams. The preparation and packing of these facilities. These volunteer opportunities are not regularly scheduled, but are facilitated through an emailed announcement. Seton Medical Center Williamson

R.O.C.K., Ride On Center for Kids

R.O.C.K., (Ride On Center for Kids) is a non-profit organization providing hippotherapy and therapeutic horseback riding to students with a variety of physical and learning challenges. R.O.C.K., in partnership with the horse, improves independence and life skills. R.O.C.K. needs volunteers to fill a variety of roles including horsehandlers, sidewalkers, barn maintenance, office assistance, fundrais-ing, special events, publicity, and much, much more. Department of Veteran's Affairs Needs You

People all over America were saddened by the out patient treatment of injured servicemen and women at Walter Reed. However the problems created by the injuries in Afghanistan and Iraq is also close to home. Temple is the location of a regional VA Medical Center that is desperately in need of your help. It also serves the VA clinics in Cedar Park and Austin. Volunteers are needed in both clinics as well as at the hospital.

Injured servicemen and women released from active duty are beginning to put a strain on an already strained service. The hospital staff is among the most sensitive and dedicated group of professionals one could meet and work with.

Volunteers are needed to do almost anything: Van drivers, Receptionists; Family Liaison; Birthday celebrations and on and on. There are opportunities to work in patient education, engineering, motor pool to name a few others.

Yes Temple is a little farther than Georgetown but a lot closer than Iraq or Afghanistan. Car pooling is a possibility with the few of us already working at Temple. No uniforms to buy and you can make your own hours and enjoy the friendship of the other volunteers while being the guest of the VA for lunch. 

So be offended by Walter Reed but volunteer to do something locally to be sure it doesn't repeat close to home.

Friends of the Georgetown Library

Do you want to help the library and your community? Judy Johnston trains the adult volunteers who help at the library who check in and shelve materials and other jobs as needed. We always need more help! If you would like to spend two or more hours each week at the Georgetown Library, please pick up a "volunteer application" at the Circulation Desk. Judy will contact you for an orientation. We know that many of you travel frequently, and that’s okay; we still have a place for you.

Did you know that on the first Tuesday of each month, Fish City Grill sponsors a local non-profit organization, and awards them 15% of the sales for that day? The first Tuesday in October is the day that the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library will be sponsored. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy a great meal and help the "Friends."

Habitat for Humanity Restore

The Habitat Restore of Williamson County is located at 2108 N Austin Ave, across the street from the Georgetown High School. We take in donations of new and gently used building materials and lumber. We are always in need of donations and volunteers to help us in our endeavor of restoring the community. We have cashier, customer service, sorting and pricing opportunities available.
