Course Description: This course is designed for computer
users who want to join together with other users nationwide to create a super-computer to work
with a variety of colleges and research sites to assist in projects designed to find cures for
Alzheimer's, ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Huntington's, Parkinson's, cancer diseases and Mad
Cow (BSE) diseases. Taking this course will give you the basics to join the project and
work with major universities: Stanford, University of Texas, US Berkley, and Oxford.
Course Objectives: When you finish this course, you should be
able to:
Choose a
"Distributed Computer" project.
Download and install
the software.
Participate in
the project.
Course Summary: A general overview of the history of Distributed
Computing and the philosophy and practice behind forming teams and participating in super-computer
projects.
