Photoshop for the person who wants to become a Serious Photographer
This course is NO LONGER OFFERED
Three, 2-hour classes
Fee: $15.00
Course Description:
This course is designed for those photographers who have taken Photoshop 1 and
Photoshop 2, and who know how to use their cameras and their photo editor. It is not a class
for the more advanced and/or accomplished photographer, nor is it for those who use Picasa, nor for
those "just looking." It is oriented to those who want to know more than what is taught
in Photoshop 1 and 2. It will concentrate on "What To Do" rather than "How To Do
It". This class will be scheduled based on member interest. Please submit an interest
form on the Computer Club website to indicate your interest. This course is taught by Wes
Odell.
This course is designed for those photographers who desire to become serious users
of one of the versions of Photoshop or Photoshop Elements on Mac or PC. The class is intended
to build on PS 1 & 2 to teach the foundational concepts leading to successful "photographic
endeavors."
The emphasis will be on real-world work with software that will provide the
foundation to learn more as new software becomes available, and as students become more proficient
with these fundamentals. Students will be encouraged to bring their own laptops with their
own software for some of the exercises. The class will include exercises editing images
provided by the instructor and, if time permits, images provided by the student. The class
will also include units related to "the final ouput," both as a print and a digitally-projected
image. Students will be encouraged to join and participate in activities of the Photographic
Society of America following completion of the class. The class will be as "Photoshop and
Elements-Version-neutral" as possible, and will use the software available in the classroom.
The class will not cover Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Bridge, or features/functions specific to
particular advanced versions of Photoshop, such as found in Adobe Photoshop CS/#. It will not
cover HDR and RAW.
Prerequisites:
Photoshop 1 and Photoshop 2 OR
equivalent
experience OR permission of the instructor to enroll.
Intended Audience: People with an understanding of the computer and the
fundamentals of Photoshop as taught in the Computer Club's offered classes, and who intend to make
use of the information to better themselves as serious photographers. Simply stated, it is
for those who have a strong desire to become "Photographers who use Photoshop." One may
consider this class to be "The Photoshop Boot Camp." This class IS NOT for those with just an
academic or a passing interest or for those whose primary interests lie with the "computer
technology" aspect of Photoshop or Elements. It is not appropriate for those whose primary
photographic interest is in making "happy-snappies." This class IS NOT for those who are
advanced photographers or those who are experienced users of Photoshop. This class
is for those who are at the Beginner end of the scale, but who desire to become serious and
advanced photography-oriented as opposed to technology oriented Photoshop users.
Course Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course, the student will be able to:
-
Know more about the "What to do," now that you have learned in Photoshop 1 and 2 the
"how to do's,"
-
Know what image parameters will lead to successful editing,
-
Know the parameters of sizing before printing,
-
Utilize advanced photo-editing techniques,
-
Design and complete short photo editing projects,
-
Adjust color and understand color management,
-
Use and understand the reference materials provided by the instructor as a guide to
advanced photo editing.
The instructor will email to all students a list of materials which should be
brought to class for this course of instruction.
