Understanding Windows 7
aka: Navigating the Territory for the Beginner Computer User

One, 2-hour class
Fee: $5.00
NOTE: These classes should be taken by students who are used to using a computer
operating system like Windows XP or Windows Vista and are looking for an overview of the new
Windows 7 operating system. This course is not designed for students who are acquiring their
first computer and have no computer experience. If you are that student, please enroll in the
Windows 7 Introduction and Windows 7 Files and Folders classes which will be offered in
April, 2010.

equivalent

Course Description:
Windows 7 is the latest operating system released by Microsoft. This class
provides an overview of the system and the skills you will need to navigate this operating
system. Students are required to complete Computer Intro XP, Vista or Windows 7 BEFORE taking
this class. This class is also the REQUIRED PREREQUISITE for Windows 7 Email Options and
Windows 7 Internet Browsers. We recommend that you take all three Windows 7 classes,
beginning with this one. This course is designed for students who have recently upgraded to
Windows 7 from either Vista or XP and are interested in learning how to navigate this new
system. While the functions of the computer remain the same in all operating systems,
learning to navigate and understand these functions are the primary goals of this
course. Come on in and learn to navigate with us!
Performance Objectives: By the completion of this class, you will be
able to:

Name and identify the components on the Windows 7 Desktop

Name the parts and functions of a window

Open, maximize, minimize, restore, and close a window

Change the size and shape of a window

Move an open window
-
Open multiple windows and arrange them in various patterns on the
Desktop

Create, name, and save a simple text document.

Create folders for storing files

Move, copy, delete, and restore files

Use several of the accessories and system tools included in
Windows
