Windows 7
<http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,82738/description.html> Version: 1.2 File Size: 66 License: Free Operating System: Windows 7 Download at: <http://downloads.pcworld.com/pub/new/utilities/network-activity-indicator.zip>. Windows 7 users, do you miss the two-monitor icon in XP's and Vista's Systray that flashed to show when there was network activity? If so, you'll want to download the small utility Network Activity Indicator for Windows 7. Run it, and you'll see that familiar old blinking icon. There are benefits beyond seeing a familiar icon; the program tells you at a glance whether you are connected to a network, and also can provide useful information about your network connection. This nifty utility does more than that, though. In fact, Network Activity Indicator for Windows 7 gives you capabilities that the XP and Vista feature didn't have. Hover your mouse over it and you'll see the number of packets you've sent and received. Right-click it to get network statistics that only a techie could love, such as your active open connections, errors received, minimum timeout, and far more. Will Network Activity Indicator for Windows 7 change the way you use Windows 7? Certainly not. But it's free, and if you like to watch your network activity, it's well worth the download. --Preston Gralla [Dale Note: The download is a ZIP file. I suggest that you unZIP it into a new folder named NetworkActivityIndicator that you locate in 64-bit Win7's Program Files (x86) folder or 32-bit Win7's Program Files folder. Once there, simply double-click on the file in the NetworkActivityIndicator folder named NetworkIndicator.exe. Immediately you'll see its icon in the System Tray. Right-click on it, click on Settings, and then place a check for the 'Load at Windows Startup' option]. (Win7_NetActInd.htm) |
