Illinois Death and Marriage Records are Online

The Illinois State Archives has placed many of their state records on line. Included is the Death Index 1916-1950 and the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763–1900.Veteran's records and public domain land records are also available. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html

Arkansas History Commission and State Archives Launches New Site

The Arkansas History Commission (AHC) has launched its newly renovated Web site at:

Included on the site are guides to holdings, which include:

There are also order forms for requesting records, state facts, and a
wonderful collection of old photographs, which can be purchased from
the site. This site is well worth a visit for those with roots in
Arkansas.


Bell County Historical Resources Guide

The Bell County, Texas, Historical Commission has published a 28-page resource guide for researchers doing historical research in the county. Produced under the direction of the Historical Preservation Committee, the guidebook includes the following:

· Complete bibliography of nearly 300 books, newspaper and magazine articles on a wide variety of Bell County history and its citizens.
· List of World Wide Web resources for Bell County genealogical research
· Lists of microfilmed county records available on interlibraryloan through Baylor University in Waco
· Guide to records available to the Bell County Clerk's Office.
· Map showing directions to the Bell County Courthouse and County Clerk's Office.
· Lists of archaelogical studies on pioneer communities that are now on the Fort Hood reservation.
· Complete lists of all museums, archives and libraries, hours of operation and description of holdings, email addresses and URLs.

The Resource Book was compiled by the Historical Preservation Committee with David Yeilding, Ph.D., as chairman. "The Resource Book is the result of a team effort from the members of the Bell County Historical Commission, who gathered bibliographical and pertinent information about their communities," said Dr. Yeilding. Patricia K. Benoit compiled the material and designed the book. "Bell County is blessed with countless resources, but, up to now, no one put them together in a useable format," Dr. Yeilding said. "To our knowledge, no other Texas county has produced such a resource like this."

This book will be very useful to scholarly researchers, genealogists and family historians and other people interested in topic pertaining to Bell County. Among those topics are railroads, Governors James and Miriam Ferguson, the Santificationists, medical institutions and military. The book is also illustrated with photos courtesy of the Bell County Museum and the private collection of Patricia K. Benoit and Weldon G. Cannon, Ph.D. The book will be available at the Bell Historical Commission Office, Room 305, in the Bell County Courthouse; the Bell County Museum; selected bookstores and museums. It will also be available by mailing a check or money order to the Bell County Historical Commission, Box 712, Belton, Texas 76513-0712. Sorry, the Commission cannot handle credit cards or CODs. Please make checks payable to the Bell County Historical Commission. Cost of the book is:

· $10 by mail (includes tax postage and handling)
· $8 if picked up in person at the Bell County Courthouse or Bell County Museum.
