Mentors Program:
Getting Help & List of Mentors
The Sun City Computer Club Mentor Program is made up of volunteer Club members
who help other members with computer problems. Mentors are available to help solve a
problem by phone or, if necessary, they go to a Club member's home.
Before you Call a Mentor
Before calling one of the Mentors please be prepared to answer the following
questions:
1. Have you tried rebooting your computer (Start > Turn Off Computer >
Shutdown), waiting one minute, and then turning it back on to see if the problem goes away?
2. Have you checked to see that all cables and plugs are firmly connected?
3. What version of Windows are you using? When did you last check for critical updates?
4. What Internet Service Provider do you use?
5. Which Virus Protection software do you have installed? When did you last update the virus
definitions and run a scan?
6. Do you have a firewall installed?
7. What program or website were you using when your computer failed?
8. What error message did you receive, or other symptom?
After you have completed these steps and the problem remains, use our Mentor
Help Request Form
to request help from a Mentor. Fill out all fields on the form and click "Submit"
once, at the bottom of the form. Your request will go by email to all Mentors. An available Mentor
will contact you by phone or email to discuss your problem and make arrangements to come to
your home, if required.
Notice - Please read
Your Mentor request will be delayed if the email address that you enter on the
form does not match the email address that the Computer Club has on record.
If you are a new Club member or not yet a Club member, your request will require
approval, which usually will be done within 24 hours. Non-members are expected to join the Computer
Club within ten days if they are satisfied with the results of their Mentor visit.
If you would prefer to contact a specific Mentor by phone you may access the Mentor
list by clicking on the link below. Choose a Mentor from the category that best describes your
problem and call using the phone numbers shown. Please call between the hours of 9 AM and 6 PM
Monday through Saturday. No mentor calls on Sunday please.
There is no charge to Club members for Mentor service, but we ask that you consider
"repaying" the Club by serving as a volunteer Monitor in the CyberCenter Lab.
If you have questions about the Mentor program or if you would like help in
obtaining the services of a Mentor contact the Mentor Coordinator, Sharon Riddell
.
If you are willing to be a Mentor please let Sharon know. We are always looking for
additional Mentors.
