Mentors Program:
Getting Help & List of Mentors
The Sun City Computer Club Mentor Program is made up of volunteer Club members who
will help other members with various computer problems. Mentors are available to help you solve a
problem by phone or if necessary they will come to your home.
Before you Call a Mentor
Before calling one of the Mentors please be prepared to answer the following
questions:
1. Have you tried turning your computer off, waiting one minute, and turning it back
on to see if the problem goes away?
2. Have you checked to see that all cables and plugs are firmly connected?
3. What version of Windows are you using? When did you last check for critical updates?
4. What Internet Service Provider do you use?
5. Which Virus Protection software do you have installed? When did you last update the virus
definitions?
6. Do you have a firewall installed?
7. What program or website were you using when your computer failed?
8. What error message did you receive?
After you have completed these steps and the problem remains, use our new Mentor
Help Request Form
to request help from a mentor. Fill out all fields on the form and click "Submit"
once, at the bottom of the form. Your request will go by email to all Mentors. An available Mentor
will acknowledge your request by email within 48 hours (usually much sooner). They will then follow
up with a phone call to discuss your problem and make arrangements to visit your home if
required.
Notice - Please read
Your Mentor request will be delayed if the email address that you enter on the
form does not match the email address that the Computer Club has on record.
Requests from known addesses will go directly to all Mentors. Requests from unknown
addresses will be held for approval by the Mentor Coordinator and you will receive a machine
generated "Non-member submission" email. The Mentor Coordinator will approve the message as soon as
possible and you need not respond to the message.
If you are a new Club member or not yet a Club member your request will require
approval which usually will be done within 24 hours. Non-members are expected to join the Computer
Club within ten days if they are satisfied with the results of their Mentor visit.
If you would prefer to contact a specific Mentor by phone you may access the Mentor
list by clicking on the link below. Choose a Mentor from the category that best describes your
problem and call using the phone numbers shown. Please call between the hours of 9 AM and 6 PM
Monday through Saturday. No mentor calls on Sunday please.
There is no charge to Club members for Mentor service but we ask that you consider
"repaying" the Club by serving as a volunteer Monitor in the CyberCenter Lab.
