DISCUSSION OF DIRECTORS REPORTS RECEIVED BY E-MAIL

Communications, Dick Smith

Monthly Computer Club Article for the Sun Rays - The CC article for the July Sun Rays was submitted during the last week of May.

CyberCenter, Don Snapp

In an effort to resolve continuous problems with our wireless system throughout the Activity center, I formed a work team to assist me to get a handle around the issue.  The team includes myself, John Baumann, Bill Buppert and Dick Smith.  Gael Miller is ex officio to the team.

The team met and formulated 'a plan' which was implemented on Saturday, May 24.

A new Linksys Router was installed and 4 repeaters were placed around the facility.  The first repeater is located in the Lab close to the Modem and Router located on the table behind Siggie.

We are currently running with the new router and the old wireless access points. We could easily switch back to the old router if there is a problem. It would only take a couple of minutes.

Presently the wireless system is in and working. The Activities Center building is covered.

Some of the basic classes are mediocre in attendance; but we only canceled one class due to the small number of students. Betty Fowler resurrected the Vista for XP Users Class, and it was well attended; so it appears there is still a need for that class. We have scheduled a full complement of classes in June; but we have reduced the number of basic classes offered in July and August, in hopes of building up some demand. We will resume our full schedule in September (usually around 20 classes per month).

We will be having an MS PowerPoint Intro class in July and an MS Excel Intro class in August. I am also searching for someone to teach Quicken classes. Jim Chapman has declined to teach any longer and prefers to have those interested in Quicken attend the SIG meetings; however, I still have quite a list of members interested in taking the Quicken classes.

The photo classes are still our best performers. Unfortunately even though several instructors have tried it, we still dont have extra instructors to teach the Picasa and Digital Camera classes in the Resnicks absence this summer.

Because Monitors are not always available the instructors must verify and know how to set the class on the sign-in computer. This is especially necessary when the class starts at the same time the lab opens or when the class starts after the lab closes.

Special Interest Groups, Nelda McQuary

Beginners and Beyond SIG Will definitely discontinue after the June 12th meeting. Leaders, Yvonne Davenport & Bev Edwards will not lead the SIG, and they feel there is no one else qualified to carry on. I have talked to Shirley Polich, and she will send an invitation to the B & B roster, asking them to meet with Kaffee Klatch.

Digital Camera SIG Chuck Fletcher has done an outstanding job of getting Digital Camera up and running again. Their May 28th meeting had 21 attending, then 4 more turned up on Thursday, as the Weekly Newsletter posted the wrong date and time in the announcement sent out on May 22nd.

Picasa SIG Successfully began on May 14th with 27 members attending. They will meet this month, then Barbara Resnick will be gone July & August, resuming in September.

Both Digital Camera and Picasa would like use Meeting Rooms 3 & 4 at the times previously used by Beginners and Beyond. The room assignment will be determined when the meeting room schedule is approved.

Any SIGs not meeting during the summer must notify Nelda so the website and weekly newsletter can reflect those changes.
