DISCUSSION OF DIRECTORS REPORTS RECEIVED BY E-MAIL
Communications, Dick Smith
Monthly CC Article for the Sun Rays: The Computer Club article for the June issue of the Sun Rays was submitted during the last week of April. The article included reference to the CyberSocial at the Pavilion on June 30th.
SCTXCC website: Usability: Dick had sent a list of concerns he had relative the new website. Meredith Mitchell has provided the Board with information about some of the same concerns. There was a discussion of possible solutions; what areas needed the most attention and what was beyond the Computer Clubs immediate control. Since Open CMS will be upgraded in the near future, the website will be re-evaluated in hopes of seeing improvements.
SCTXCC website: Contacts: Dick recommended the Newsletter email address be removed from the website since it should not be available to the general membership. To assist the Newsletter compiler, he requests that the submission deadline should be changed to from Wednesday to Tuesday.
CyberCenter, Don Snapp
After reviewing the expansion plans into the Visual Arts space allocated to the Computer Club, Don recommends that we must plan now to request to use the Atrium for the majority of our meetings for next year and all the years thereafter. He feels the size of the Visual Arts area will compromise the quality of visual presentations. Peter Roll said there were possible technical solutions to making a wide shallow room useable for mid to small size meetings.
Don described the ideas of a group of members proposing to start a possible new workshop, along the lines of a Walk-in-Clinic. It is very early in the discussion stage, with lots of planning before considering formation.

Picasa SIG As you know we have a new SIG being led by Barbara Resnick. Shes a real pro; her web page is in place and looks great. This SIG will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the Computer Club Meeting Room. The first meeting will be May 14th.
Beginners and Beyond SIG Leaders, Yvonne Davenport & Bev Edwards, have asked permission to end their leadership of the SIG. There is a possible volunteer to be the leader. This SIG might change from meeting twice a month to once a month. There will be no meetings over the summer.
Digital Camera SIG There is a possible new leader for this SIG. Marlene Sloan and Jim Bilbro are offering to help any new Leader/Leaders.
The SIG web pages are being maintained by the Leaders, which has reduced Merediths work. I have given thanks to the Leaders. I certainly appreciate Gene Boley sharing his step-by-step instructions, which have been very helpful to the Leaders. There are only two web pages that are out-of-date right now.
At the SIG Leaders meeting, in February, I suggested that the Weekly Newsletter could be used to spotlight a SIG each month. Different Leaders signed up to put a 4-line blurb advertising the benefits of their SIG in the Newsletter. The March & April presenters did not follow thru; however Barbara Resnick had a nice announcement concerning Picasa this month.
The Leaders have been reminded of the maximum occupancy for each meeting room and particularly asked to not block the doorways with tables or chairs.
Total attendance to all SIGs in April was 321.

The basic classes are still falling off in attendance; and what the above chart doesnt show is that 4 classes were canceled by the Instructors, due to the small number of students. Have we reached the half-way point, between XP and Vista users Or have we just over-saturated the market We will test this by significantly reducing the number of basic classes offered in July and August, and resume our basic schedule in the fall.
We will be introducing some new classes during the summer months; specifically, MS PowerPoint Intro and MovieMaker.
The photo classes are still our best performers; and this month we offered a duplicate class in both Digital Cameras and Photoshop 1, hoping the relieve some of the pent-up demand for these classes.
Old Business
Proposed Computer Club Policy on disposition of Club Equipment A motion to accept the Computer Club Policy on disposition of Club Equipment as presented to the Board by Gael Miller was made by Doug Steinke and seconded by Rex Davenport. The motion carried.
Sun City Thanks to the Troops There was general agreement that the SCTXCC would not participate in the Thanks to the Troops program.
NEW BUSINESS
Junior Camp The CA asked the Computer Club to consider sponsoring two days of Junior Camp rather than the traditional one day. Peter Roll explained the plan to split the participants into two groups at this years camp. He suggested we would be in a better position to determine our ability and desire to do two days after the camp in June.
Requests for Excess Computers A lap top was requested by the Dance/Drill Club. There should be one available in another few months. The Amateur Radio Club has asked for a desk top computer. There is one available at this time. The Board was in agreement with these placements.
Local Computer Repair Service A local company requested time to make a presentation to the membership. It is not in keeping with the Computer Clubs policies.
Web site Use Counter Meredith said that one group had asked for a counter on their page. He wondered how the Board felt about having that feature. The Board was enthusiastic about having counters on groups pages that requested them and on the Home Page.
Members Survey Form Doug Steinke presented a survey for the purpose of obtaining a profile of the club membership in hopes of determining the expectations of the members and possible future directions for the club. He has developed a separate survey focusing on Monday Programs. He hopes to give out the Monday Program survey beginning next Monday. The general Members survey is still a work in progress. It will probably be accessible on the webpage.
