Monthly Computer Club Article for the
Sun Rays:
The article for the March
Sun Rays for the Computer Club was submitted during the last week of January. These
articles are due basically the first day of the month for the following month’s issue.
Computer Club Member Weekly Newsletter:
Betty Fowler did a terrific job in publishing her first weekly
newsletter for the week of Feb 4 – Feb 9. This newsletter was sent to the 2008 membership only.
Doug Willoughby later sent the newsletter to members who had not renewed their membership for 2008
indicating to those members that they would not receive any further newsletters unless they became
2008 members.
Newsletter publishing assistance will be provided to Betty by Jan
Miller, Dick Smith, and Doug Willoughby, as required.
Doug has been instrumental in getting the newsletters out during
January as well as training the other members of the team to use PHPList on the CA web portal as a
delivery vehicle.
CyberCenter, Don Snapp
A new 78 rpm record player was put into service for the Media
Conversion group last week. Doug Willoughby checked it out and updated the operating
instructions.

We held a New Member Reception on Jan. 29th, at 10:00 am in the
atrium. I sent out 304 invitations and between 90 and 100 attended. The response from
the audience was very good. The next New Member Reception will be April 29th.

Our first Vista classes filled to capacity or nearly so, while the
basic XP classes remained popular as well. Surprisingly, the registration for the Email
classes in both XP and Vista was low this month; these are usually quickly filled. The
Internet classes had a disappointing signup as well. We are continuing to monitor class
interest and class materials.
Special Interest Groups, Nelda McQuary
Digital Camera SIG –
A group consisting of Doug Steinke, Jim Bilbro,
Marlene Sloan, Ray Wright, Bob Kissner and myself met on January 22
nd to discuss the future of this SIG. There was an average monthly attendance of
39.6 members last year. It is difficult to suspend meetings that have been so well attended
in the past; and yet, there is no one willing to take on the Leadership role. The web page
and description are listed under the SIG heading with a notice that meetings are cancelled until
further notice.
Marlene will continue maintenance of the web
page, posting updated events, pictures, and announcements, under the heading of Digital
Imaging. She feels necessary information can be successfully passed on to members through
this web page and through presentations at Monday meetings.
ProShow Gold SIG –
A
motion that the Computer Club purchase 2 training DVD’s from
Photodex in the amount of $108.25 + shipping to be installed on multiple machines in the lab,
laptop and on the tank was made by Nelda McQuary and seconded by Peter Roll.. This
multi-installation has been approved by Photodex per Ray Wright, SIG Leader.
Installation will be on the computers equipped with ProShow Gold software, provided those pcs have
a DVD reader. The motion passed.
Total attendance to all SIG’s in January was 396. a great record to
start the year. (Kaffee Klatch had 115 attending their meetings.)
Old Business
Classroom Computers –
Uses for computers being moved out of the classroom was
discussed. This topic is not fully resolved. The Board will continue to research the
matter.
Thank-you notes for donated computers –
Thank-you notes and letters have been received from the Bridge, the
Woodworkers and the Stained Glass Clubs in appreciation for computers received from the Computer
Club.
On-line Registration –
The evaluation of the Computer Club’s experience with on-line
registration written by Barbara Resnick was received and reviewed by the Executive Board
members. The topic will be revisited in another month or two.
NEW BUSINESS
Media Conversion –
The movie film re-winder has been a dubious piece of equipment.
Since it was recently repaired, it will not yet be replaced.
Junior Camp –
Joan Keith has volunteered to coordinate the Computer Club’s part of
the Junior Camp. Meredith Mitchell and Peter Roll have volunteered to assist Joan with the
Camp activities. The Camp dates of June 19 and June 26 will be blocked out on the Computer
Club’s calendars with no meetings, classes or open lab scheduled.
OTHER BUSINESS
Social Chairman –
President Gael Miller appointed Mary Smith as the Computer Club’s
Social Chairman.
CyberCenter Expansion –
Consideration of possible use of anticipated CyberCenter Expansion
was moved to a later time.
The next Executive Board Meeting will be 9:30 A.M. Thursday, March
6, 2008 in Meeting Rooms #3 & 4 of the Activity Center.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:45 AM
