CyberCenter, Don Snapp

Approximately 322 luncheon tickets have been sold as of January 3rd.  Thursday, the 10th will be the last day for ticket sales before giving the count to the caterer.  Dick Doane and the social committee will handle arrangements with the caterer. Of the tickets 322 tickets, 55 were sold through PayPal.

I completed the revamp of the Software bags in both the Classroom and in the Lab storage cabinets.  I believe there are items missing from some of them, but we will have to cope with problems as they arise.

I have acquired some microphone parts to place on the Tank, so that a mike will be located directly on the unit.  They have been installed. The equipment should work well for the Atrium presentations.

Don saw that a new 78 player for the old vinyl records is now on the market for around $175. I have reviewed this proposal with Doug Willoughby he agrees it would be useful.   Don Snapp made a motion that the board vote to authorize the purchase of a 78 player for Audio conversion purposes. Doug Steinke seconded the message. The motion passed.

As you are all probably aware, December was a short month for classes. Classes were held in the first two weeks of the month only, so that all the classroom computers could be changed out for the new dual-boot computers.

Class schedules for the year 2008 are going to be more dense, because we will be having basic classes for both XP and Vista. For two weeks the computers in the classroom will be booted up in XP; the following two weeks will be Vista. A notation in the Sunday column of the Training Calendar indicates which OS will be used that week. We will follow this basic rotation, unless something arises to cause us to rethink this 50/50 split.

For example, here are the classes scheduled for January 2008:

Special Interest Groups, Nelda McQuary

Digital Camera SIG Marlene Sloan and Jim Bilbro say that there is not enough interest by any one person or group of persons to commit to Leadership of this group; therefore it will be suspended. The Digital Camera listings will not be removed from the SIG descriptions or web pages on our web site until it can be determined where all of Marlenes Digital Imagining information can be placed.

There are at least 25 members interested in getting together to discuss Photoshop CS2 and CS3, so Jim will continue with this Discussion Group on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the CyberCenter Meeting Room. This group is not considered a SIG.

The Board discussed the issue of attendance records for the SIG meetings not held in the Cyber Center. Several options were considered. Dick Smith has been tracking the out of CyberCenter SIG attendance. Don Snapp has volunteered to manually enter the attendance until another solution is found.

Total attendance to all SIGs in December was 235 with 3312 attending during 2007, which represented 114 meetings being held by SIG Leaders.

Old Business

Annual Computer Club Meeting and Luncheon on January 14th Since the deadline for giving the final ticket count is Friday January 11th, tickets will be sold through January 10th. One table will be reserved.

Disposition of Classroom Computers A motion was made by Don Snapp and seconded by Doug Steinke to give 5 of the replaced computers to the 5 Charter Clubs that have requested them. The motion passed. A motion was made by Dick Smith and seconded by Doug Steinke to replace the computer in the workshop used for slide scanning with an old classroom computer.

Set up of the new Classroom Computers All 13 new classroom computers will be set up with XP on one drive and Vista on the other. MS Office 2002 will be installed on the XP drive and MS Office 2007 will be installed on the Vista drive. Photoshop Elements 6 will be installed on both operating systems of 9 computers.

On-line Membership and sale of tickets The Board had a discussion of the in depth reports made by Past Communications Dir., Dave Hanna, and Barbara Resnick about the results of the on-line membership and on-line sale of luncheon tickets through the Pay Pal service. One third of the entries were problems of various kinds. Even though only a very few have not been resolved, the hours of work required were excessive. It was concluded that the service would be suspended for the time being.

The following individuals contributed many hours to the on-line project. Thank you to all.
