Officers Reports
Peter Roll
The following list is a summary of the detailed report Peter sent to
the Executive Board:
1. Testing of configurations for 13 new
Classroom computers
2. Workshops on CyberCenter equipment
3. Procurement of the 13 new Classroom
computers
4. Anti-Virus software for CyberCenter
computers
5. Replacement of 4 Lab computers, 2008; what
do we do now with the Dell Inspiron test computer?
6. Utility computers (workshop, used by
Mentors, etc.)
After discussion of all points, a motion was made by Peter and
seconded by Dick Smith to proceed with the procurement of the 13 replacement computers for the

AVG anti-virus software will continue to be loaded on the Computer

is delayed to assure the updated versions of VISTA.
The Dell Inspiron will remain in the Computer Club inventory.
Gael Miller
Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon – Gael reported that replies to the
invitation has been lower than expected. The invitation will be sent again this week to those
who have not responded. The deadline for notifying the caterer is fast approaching.
STANDING COMMITTEES
Social –
The next Cyber Social will be on October 29
th. It is expected there will be somewhere around 300 attending. The caterer
doing the Appreciation Luncheon will be asked what they can offer that sized group and the price
ranges.
DISCUSSION OF DIRECTORS’ REPORTS RECEIVED BY E-MAIL
Communications, Dave Hanna
After discussion of the study Dave made of the requirements allowing
members to pay dues on-line, it was agreed to exclude payments for tickets and training classes at
this time. A motion was made by Dave Hanna and seconded by Linda Shanhouse to proceed with
the implementation of online dues payment as outlined unless a major stumbling point is
discovered. The motion carried. The initial implementation team working with Dave will
include Dick Smith, Linda Shanhouse and Peggy Uselton. Others will be added to the team as
needed.
Web Portal Microsite for Computer Club
I have updated the open Lab hours on our page at the Web Portal site. Here is a direct link
to our page
http://sctxca.org/suncity/clubs-groups/clubs/computer/
If anyone has any ideas for things that should be added or changed on that page please let me
know.
Dave has changed and shortened the article for the
Computer Club in the monthly
Sun Rays. He plans to keep the article current to make it more interesting to
all.
Webmaster
– Meredith Mitchell continues to explore solutions to
problems arising from efforts to move the Computer Club's web site to the Portal. Primary
problems appear to be computer specific, rather than having a more general solution
Newsletter
– Linda Walke reported that sending the newsletter is
going smoothly.
CyberCenter, Don Snapp
The Open Hours sign have been changed to show the new Lab open hours
for the CyberCenter. It matches the sign on the wall beside the CyberCenter

Special Interest Groups, Nelda McQuary
All seven (7) SIG Leaders (meeting outside the CyberCenter Meeting
Room) have received their room schedules for 2008 for review and acceptance. The date for the
Quicken SIG in May was changed from May 9
th to May 19
th. There are still some questions regarding the Quicken SIG meeting time &
location during February and October when Senior University will be using Rooms 3 & 4 on the 3
rd Monday at 9:30 a.m. Dick Doane will be providing answers when he returns.
(Dick, please provide your answers to previous E-mail messages directly to Jim Chapman with a copy
to me.)
Only 3 SIGS are scheduled to meet in the CyberCenter Meeting Room
during Lab hours; 3 others meet in the Meeting Room after Lab hours. We don’t expect any
noise distraction for the SIG’s or members in the lab during these meetings.
Hardware & Technology SIG –
I believe we have a confirmation that they can use Rooms 3 & 4
beginning at 9:30 a.m. so that the meeting time can be changed from 10:30 to 10:00 a.m. on the 3
rd Tuesday of each month beginning in September 2007 thru 2008. If anyone has
information to the contrary, please let me know.
All SIG Leaders have been given a reminder of the Volunteer
Appreciation Luncheon on September 22 along with a “thank you” for all their work with their
particular SIG. I let them know that I will be out of town and not able to attend on that
date.
Total attendance to all SIG’s in August was 170 slightly more than
July attendance of 143
- only 6 SIG’s, out of 13, met during the month of August. All
SIG’s except E-bay will resume in September; Nancy Strayer (e-Bay) will return in
November.
