DISCUSSION OF DIRECTORS’ REPORTS RECEIVED BY E-MAIL
Communications, Dave Hanna
Computer Club Web site Migration - Peter has proposed that the Computer Club Web site be used as a "test case" to try out the use of a Content Management System that is not the Open CMS system implemented by the Web Portal project. The Web Portal team is of the opinion that there are two or three other CMS systems that are probably better suited to the Sun City application than Open CMS. A successful trial with the Computer Club might lead to the Web Portal site being migrated to another system in two or three years. Some of the impact of following Peter’s proposal was listed. This suggestion will be discussed in greater detail with the incoming Communications Director and new Webmaster and a decision made later.
The Board members were in agreement that SC Computer Club Mentors would not be expected to support non-club members during the SuddenLink migration.
CyberCenter, Don Snapp
The solution to replacing the Lab Monitor vests has not been found.
A question came from the Social Center asking why the CyberCenter phone number was not listed in Sun Rays. While we have a question/answer service on the Computer Club webpage, we do not have the ability to respond to technical questions that would come in by phone. Other services are all completed by the interested resident coming into the Lab. The current phone system does not allow for a voice message when the Lab is closed. We will not publish the phone number at this time.
We have to give the count to Sodexho for the Annual Meeting Luncheon by January 8th. They will set up for 5% over the count to prevent running out of food.
Membership, Peggy Uselton
The number of club members as of October 31, 2006 2,202
The number of new members who joined in October, 2006 24
The total number of new members who have joined in 2006 584
We now have 109.2% of 2005’s membership.
We held a New Member Reception Oct. 31, from 10:30 to noon, in the Atrium; about twenty-three new members attended – plus two who plan to join on November1! I sent 88 invitations and reminders; so that means an attendance rate of 26.1%. This is slightly on the low side of what we usually expect, but Halloween events and Senior University may have caused conflicts for some. Those asked, liked having the reception begin at 10:30. Future receptions will be scheduled for the 10:30 time slot.

Special Interest Groups, Nelda McQuary
Mac Users Group (MUG) – Permanently changed their meeting time to 3rd Wednesday, 3:00 - 4:30 pm.
eBay – Nancy Strayer will accept Leadership of the eBay SIG with John Bosch in charge of setting up the equipment. Since these Leaders were not in place until early this week, the November meeting is delayed until the 2nd Wed of November at 4:00 pm. December and following meetings will be at the regular time of 1st Wednesday, 4:00 pm.
WebSite Design – Jerry Sivin will lead this SIG with Doug’s help in the beginning. The meetings will be held at the regular time of 3rd Tuesday 1:30 pm.
Quicken – Four members expressed interest in Quicken Classes and the SIG by signing the interest sheet at the New Member’s Reception. Jayne Rankin seems to be quite proficient with Quicken, and I am expecting that she will help with classes and the SIG. We will also begin making announcements at the Monday meetings with Interest Sheets there. Currently a meeting time is being decided. A possible evening time is being considered. The Quicken software has been obtained. It was decided to put the software on the classroom computers and also on the laptops that will be used for SIG meetings and for programs.
Total attendance to all SIG’s in October was 208 with no report from Digital Camera and Media Conversion. The eBay & WebSite Design SIGS were dismissed
Counting attendance for the SIGS not meeting in the CyberCenter will be based on a general head count.

Several teachers have requested a second laser pointer for their assistants to use in the classroom.
Grady asked for some type of mail boxes in the Center for board members, faculty, and staff. Don will look for a place.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Status of election of officers for 2007 – November 15th is the deadline for posting the list of candidates. The ballot must be ready by December 1. The By-laws require at least one candidate for each office. This year there may be more than one for some offices.
NEW BUSINESS
Requests from other clubs for our used computers – While these requests continue to come to the Computer Club, replaced computers are actually the property of the Community Association. All requests will be referred to them.
Request for 2 copies of Adobe PS V5 to be installed - The updated software will be installed on the Tank and Ballroom2 Laptop to be used for SIG programs and demonstrations.
OTHER BUSINESS
SuddenLink Migration. – Since the CyberCenter is using a commercial account which is slower than possible alternatives, the price (free) makes it the current choice. The conversion has been delayed one week by SuddenLink. Club members are encouraged to wait until Mentors have had an opportunity to experience the process.
The next Executive Board Meeting will be 9:00 A.M. Thursday, December 7th, 2006, at the Sun City CyberCenter Meeting Room.
A motion was made by Rex Davenport and seconded by Gael Miller to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 10:55 A.M.
