How Did You Do That? -

"Cleaning Up Your Desktop "

Monday Program for SCTX Computer Club

June 5 , 2006

John Bosch

We are going to look at the windows desktop on the computer and learn about different things that we can do to "clean it up" so that it isn't so cluttered.  Other things that can be done with the desktop will also be shown.

Most of the information given is a “live hands on” presentation.  So notes cannot be specific or extensive.  You need to be here to see what’s going on.

  1. We will look at a sample desktop that has about ½ of the screen filled with icons from program links and web page links.  We will learn the following:
    1. How to create main subject folders in order to drag icons into so that the corresponding files will be stored inside.
    2. How to sort the icons on the desktop.
    3. How to rename the icons on the desktop.
    4. How to change the icon to look like something other than a folder.
    5. How to move a folder to the start menu.
  2. Next, we look at how to change the appearance of the desktop.
    1. How to change the background.
    2. How to change the colors used for windows.
    3. How to change the desktop theme.
    4. How to change the screensaver and how to use it.
    5. How to change the appearance of the desktop.
  3. You will also be shown a few items that you should not do to the desktop.
