Creative Clay & China
Policies and Guidelines

 

The Board of Directors is responsible for implementing policies to safeguard the Studio and related assets owned by the Creative Clay & China Club. The Board is charged with ensuring that all policies and procedures are strictly enforced.

Studio

  1. Monitors are responsible for opening the studio any time the studio is open for general use by members. Monitors are entrusted with the lock box code and must keep it confidential.

  2. The Studio can not open without an assigned monitor. If a member trained as a monitor is willing to take responsibility, the studio may be opened.

  3. Members can not be in the studio before or stay after studio hours without permission of the board.

  4. Members must sign the attendance log when entering the studio.

  5. Studio assets (machines, tools or supplies) are provided for personal use. It is the policy of the studio that these assets may not be used for personal financial gain or retail sales that are not club sponsored.

  6. Studio storage spaces are for property of the studio and not for personal items, tools or supplies.

  7. Anyone using the studio must be a resident or a guest. After using the studio 3 times, membership in the club is required for further studio use.

     

Work Tables 

  1. Members are allowed ¼ of a table for work space. Whether a counter height work tables or glazing tables.

  2. Glazing is allowed on the laminate surfaced tables only.

 

Drying Shelves 

  1. Drying shelves are not for storing bisque or partially glazed items. These items should be stored in your locker or taken home.

  2. Large shelves are for large pieces. Mid-size and flat pieces should be placed on other shelves.

  3. Remove any papers or supports used when you remove your piece from the shelf.
     

Kiln Room  

  1. When pieces are placed in the kiln room, they must be on the proper shelf. (greenware, low-fire glaze, mid-high fire glaze) Pieces must be signed and have the proper tag.

  2. All Mid-High fire glazed pieces must have a shelf protector with them.

  3. Each Mid-High fire pieces must have a glazing ticket initialed by the monitor.

  4. Shelf protectors should be used for low fire pieces if there is a question about the glaze running.

  5. If you have special instructions you must leave a note for the kiln loaders.

  6. If your glazed Low Fire pieces requires special stilting you should place it on the appropriate stilt or leave instructions for the loaders.

  7. Do not enter the Kiln Room while the loaders are working.

  8. Only trained loaders may load or unload the kilns.

Locker Policy

  1. Locker space is available for new members after a 1 month period.

  2. Locker space is assigned by the locker monitor.

  3. Lockers are relinquished if a member does not work regularly in the studio at least 4 times a month.

  4. Members’ personal items are to be stored in their locker, not in studio storage spaces.

Clay Storage

  1. Members may store clay on the Red shelves in the wheel room. Additional storage is available on the bottom shelf near the extruder.

  2. Amounts of less than ½ bag should be stored in members lockers.

  3. Bags on studio shelves must be marked with member name and date of purchase.

  4. Disposal of clay. Bags of clay that have become hard and non workable will be removed from shelves by members of the board only. This clay and clay in debris buckets will be recycled and used for studio items for the craft sale of for shelf protectors.

  5. Members wishing to recycle their own clay may do so, but may not leave clay on the plaster slab longer than a day and a half.

Studio Clean Up

  1. Each member is responsible for cleaning their work space.

  2. Any studio equipment or supplies must be properly cleaned and put away.

  3. Towels used should be put in the dirty towel bin or taken home, washed and returned to the studio.

  4. Towels used in the wheel room should be folded and placed on the stool or taken home, washed and returned to the studio.

  5. Members should sweep up any clay trimmings.

  6. Wheels must be put back together. Be sure the wheel is TURNED OFF. Stools place on top of the wheel.

  7. Members will be asked to help with major studio clean up during the year.

Classes

  1. Classes are held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings.

  2. Members wishing to schedule a class must obtain approval by the board.

  3. All class fees must be paid through the monitor.

  4. Studio will retain a percentage of the class fee.

  5. All materials for a class must be purchased either by the presenter or participants. This includes the firing fee.

  6. It is the presenter’s responsibility to contact any participants and inform them of any class schedule changes or cancellations.

Library

  1. Any member of the club may borrow books from the studio library.

  2. Members must fill out the check out form in the book and properly file it.

  3. Books should be returned in a timely manner.

  4. Any member borrowing a book is expected to replace it in its proper location.

  5. Donations will be accepted; however, the placing of a donated book into the library will be at the discretion of the board.
     

Infraction of Rules

  1. Infractions of club policies will be brought to the attention of the President by the monitor on duty or by others aware of the problem. After verifying the circumstances of the incident, the President will convey a description of the incident to the Executive Board.

  2. The Executive Board will review each such incident and will take on of the following actions, as deemed appropriate:

  1. Close the matter without further action.

  2. Review and modify the policy in question.

  3. Forward the matter to the Board of Directors of the Association.
