Kiwanis Club of Sun City Georgetown

The
Kiwanis Club of Sun City Georgetown is a service
organization comprised of caring men and women from all walks of life. Our objective is to bring
aid to children in need. Most of our efforts benefit children in Georgetown and Williamson County.
A portion of the funds we raise go to help meet
Kiwanis International objectives which focus on the special
needs of young children from prenatal development to age five. We serve by sponsoring fund raising
activities and performing community service activities. Our Club is governed by a
Board of Directors which includes
five officers and six directors.
Chartered in 1997 our Sun City Club is 135 members strong, the second largest club
in all of the
Texas-Oklahoma District. We have sponsored the
Sun City Holiday Home Tour since 2001.
Another major fundraising activity is the Sun City Garage Sales. To date, our Club has contributed
more than $190,000.00 to various organizations in our community.
We award $2,000 scholarships to one or more graduating seniors in the Georgetown and
Jarrell high schools, and also Richarte high school, the alternative high school in Georgetown. In
2005 we began our
Literacy Initiative, where we
provide free books to the children in Title I schools through the second grade, and to Head Start
children. Club members deliver the books and read to the classes. We provide financial support to
other local organizations, including the Georgetown Public Library Children's Program, the Palace
Theatre Children's Scholarship, and others.
